Since last month the Piyami Lodge, Piyami Manor and Piyami Place in Picture Butte has had a new manager.

The facility is part of the Green Acres Foundation Housing for Seniors.

Brenda McDonald, who previously lived in Vulcan for the past 28 years, is the new manager.

“I was a lodge manager there. Only here there’s a little bit more of designated assisted living, where in Vulcan we just had supportive living and independent living,” said McDonald, who sold her house in Trek-ville to relocate to the Lethbridge area.

“I’m looking for a new challenge too,” she added.

So far, McDonald is impressed with the wonderful facility.

“The residents are happy, which is always a good sign. Their families seem to be happy with the care. The staff that works here are very dedicated and committed. They love what they’re doing and they really take care of the residents, so well. And wonderful fabulous cooks too,” said McDonald.

Future plans for the facility include outside improvements, such as a new gazebo for residents and suite updates in the manor.

Presently, McDonald noted there are 11 vacancies at the facility.

“We do have some vacancies and we’re actually looking for some people to move in,” said McDonald, with talk of a possible Bring Your Friend to Lunch Day, complete with entertainment.

“See if some of the people in the surrounding area might like to move in. In the lodge itself, there’s about 11 empty rooms, so we’d like to fill those ones up as soon as possible,” added McDonald.

For now McDonald is really happy to be in the Picture Butte area and was happy to meet community members and the staff at Piyami.

“It’s been excellent and I’m really looking forward to getting involved in the town of Picture Butte,” said McDonald, who likes to volunteer.

“I really like to volunteer a lot,” she added.
