Picture Butte town council reviewed some variances in the 2019 budget.
During their regular Oct. 28 meeting, Picture Butte town council received the third quarter variance report.
“Right now we are well within our budget, so we’re maintaining what we need to maintain going into the last quarter,” said Michelle Overbeeke, director of corporate services for the town.
Mayor Cathy Moore requested that for the upcoming 2020 budget, they adjust the corresponding bylaw to reflect that they weren’t going to receive as much funds under the bylaw category like they had expected last year.
In the report, under the bylaw category, under the the 2019 operating revenues the town had budgeted receiving $2,500 in fines.
However, the year to date amount they have received is $235 worth of fines, or just 9.4 per cent of the budgeted amount, with the reason being there had been very little bylaw fines activity.
Other variances in the operating budget include under public works operating revenues, they budgeted $233,435 for the year and have spent $179,480.26 so far, with the reason being is a full years of insurance is recorded in March; the FCSS requisition operating expenses budgeted $14,000 and they spent $13,774.10 so far, the reason given is that a full year of FCSS was recorded; and for land development operating revenues they budgeted $100,000 and received $12,858, the reason given was they had not done any land sales yet this year.
Additionally, in the capital budget, for the WDC SCADA (2017 IMP Project) budget item, $20,000 was budgeted and they spent $21,875.00, as the SCADA upgrade was more expensive than expected.
Council passed a motion to accept the report for information.
