A local business owner will be matching funds to help raise money for the Coaldale Food Bank.Graham’s Garage owner Conrad Van Bostelen said in a recent conversation with Vaughn Caldwell, the coordinator for the food bank, he was told that usage had risen by 51 per cent, and decided to help to elevate some of that extra pressure in a fundraiser, where he would match funds up to $1,000.”I kind of thought that they could use a little extra help at this time, and so can some of the people that are suffering right now,” said Van Bostelen.

“I just thought of how many people are using it right now, and just thought they can use a little extra boost.”

He decided to go the monetary route rather than do something such as a food drive as a fundraiser because this way the food bank can use the funds to buy what they need, rather than “collect 18,000 cans of spaghetti sauce”.

“They can go out and buy food and they have variety,” said Van Bostelen.

“A lot of times the same things get donated, so I figured this would be a better way to do it.”

While he doesn’t have a set deadline of when donations would be in by, as he’ll “do it no matter what, it doesn’t matter how much time it takes”, he would prefer donations come in sooner than later.

“I would really hope it would not take that long, I would just hope that everybody would kind of step up as much as possible, and I hope it would go quickly.”

People can donate either directly at the food bank or do so at Graham’s Garage.

Van Bostelen asks that those who donate do so either by cheque or cash, and include their name and address so he can collect that information for tax receipt purposes.
