The Coalhurst First Responders Society will be holding their third annual charity golf tournament at the Land-O-Lakes Golf Course on June 24.
The event is organized and facilitated by the Coalhurst First Responders Society with the goal of raising money to enhance the community.
“Coalhurst First Responders Society is primarily made up of the (27) members of the Coalhurst Volunteer Fire Department. As a group we are motivated to help people in times of emergency but that drive to help people also encourages us to support our community in other ways. We are well backed by our community and in turn want to help our town and the people in it to thrive,” said Volunteer fire fighter Melissa Oudshoorn
Proceeds from the 2023 golf tournament event will go to supporting Coalhurst and area residents. Funds from a successful 2022 tournament were used to host an open house event at the fire hall with special guest Santa Claus. Money raised was also used to purchase items for a number of Christmas food hampers for families needing a hand up over the holidays. A portion of the donations collected as part of last year’s fundraising efforts also went to supporting First Responders in need, through the “A New Dawn Foundation.” Oudshoorn said the Coalhurst First Responder’s Society golf tournament raised $6,200 in 2022.
This year, the Coalhurst First Responders Society is looking to once again give back to their community, including contributing to the Coalhurst wetlands development’s recreational facilities.
The society is seeking donations for various tournament contests and the silent auction, as well as monetary donations and gift cards from businesses looking to get involved.
The first tournament took place in 2019, and after cancellations in 2020 and 2021, returned in 2022 for its second year. The day of golf will be followed by a dinner and prizes courtesy of donations from various local sponsors.
The Coalhurst First Responders Society is currently looking for community sponsorships for the event in the form of silent auctions and door prize donations, tournament prizes, including services, products, and gift cards, or monetary donations. The cost to sponsor a hole in the tournament is $250.
The cost to register is $130 per person. To register to participate in the event or to pledge sponsorship contact, contact the society directly at cffs@shaw.ca.
