As Lethbridge County celebrates 60 years, Reeve Tory Campbell reflects on the area’s significance in Alberta.

“We’re excited to be celebrating our 60th Anniversary this year,” says Reeve Campbell. “It’s given us the opportunity to look back on the last six decades and see how far we’ve come as a community. Lethbridge County has grown to become the most productive agricultural municipality in Alberta, generating billions of dollars each year in economic activity. Our producers take great pride in growing and raising high-quality food that is exported around the world. We’re seeing great advances in ag innovation that many of our producers are utilizing to become even more efficient and sustainable. We are incredibly proud of the contributions our farmers make to the economic well-being of the region.”

Lethbridge County is a significant player in the agricultural landscape, contributing nearly $4 billion annually to the economy. Localized innovations include advanced irrigation systems that represent 68 per cent of irrigated acreage in Canada, enhancing water efficiency and crop yields. The region’s commitment to modern farming practices is evident in its extensive use of technology to improve productivity and sustainability.

Campbell continues, “Lethbridge County is an ideal location for living, working, and conducting business. We have access to international markets through our robust transportation networks, competitive tax rates, and a supportive business community. Our residents enjoy access to education, healthcare, and recreation opportunities in Lethbridge and neighbouring towns, while being able to live in a quiet, picturesque rural setting in the County. With the combination of lifestyle and opportunity, Lethbridge County is a great place to plant your roots and grow.”

To celebrate the 60th anniversary, the Town’s Anniversary Committee has been hard at work planning two celebrations.

Campbell explains, “We’ll be hosting family-friendly events in Shaughnessy on July 12th and at the McNally Community Centre on July 19th from 3-7 p.m. There will be music, games, food, and fun for all ages. More details will be available shortly on our website and social media channels. We encourage our residents to join us for these events!”

There is also something special just for kids.

“We are holding a colouring contest for our youngest residents to show off their artistic skills,” says Campbell. “Youth aged 3-9 can participate and enter to win some fun summer-themed prizes. Colouring sheets and entry forms are available on our website at https://lethcounty.ca/p/60-years-of-lethbridge-county  or at our Lethbridge office. The deadline is July 31 and we’ll display all of the submissions at our Lethbridge office.”

There is so much to celebrate about Lethbridge County year round, but be sure to mark July 12 and July 19 in your calendar so you can celebrate the 60th at these community events.
