The MPE Link Pathway, a community-led initiative connecting Lethbridge and Coaldale, is set to celebrate a major milestone on August 8 – its grand opening.

Phase 1 is complete and to mark the occasion, a celebration at the Link Pathway’s Coaldale trailhead will take place on August 8 from 11 am to 1 pm. A free BBQ lunch is provided. Link Pathway themed merchandise will be on sale with proceeds going to support the continued project development. Guests are invited to bring their bikes to enjoy the pathway after the speeches from local dignitaries conclude.

While the event is free and open to all, registration is requested to ensure enough food is available at the BBQ. Register on Eventbrite (eventbrite.ca/e/link-pathway-grand-opening-of-phase-1-tickets-910945832507). Our commitment to enhancing the quality of life for our residents is reflected in our support and investment in the MPE Link Pathway. This project aligns perfectly with our vision for a more connected, healthy, and active community. The MPE Link Pathway is a remarkable addition to southern Alberta, offering residents and visitors an opportunity to cycle, run, or walk through our beautiful agricultural heartland. This project is a testament to dedication and collaboration, brought to life through extensive community engagement and close cooperation with various stakeholders.”

He continues, “We are thrilled to celebrate the grand opening of the first phase of the MPE Link Pathway. This pathway not only provides safe access to our region’s natural beauty but also serves as a vital link for cyclists and pedestrians, promoting healthy lifestyles and strengthening community bonds.”

Tory Campbell, Reeve, Lethbridge County, will also be part of the grand opening event.

“I’m extremely excited that the MPE Link Pathway grand opening is rapidly approaching. Lethbridge County Council is a proud pathway partner, we’re excited to participate in the festivities of the grand opening and share in the celebrations,” shares Reeve Campbell.

To date, the project has raised $3.5 million of its $6.8 million goal.

Mayor Van Rijn adds, “It’s important to acknowledge the generosity of the many donors who have stepped forward to help fund the MPE Link Pathway. Their support has been crucial in moving this project ahead, and we encourage others to explore the sponsorship opportunities available to leave their mark on southern Alberta.

He concludes, “I extend my heartfelt thanks to the MPE Link Pathway Board Chairman, Henry Doeve, Vice Chair Alvin Fritz, and all the board members for their unwavering dedication. Their perseverance in navigating obstacles and never giving up has been instrumental in making this dream a reality. As we look forward to the next phase of the MPE Link Pathway, we remain committed to seeing the completion of this vital project.
