An oversight brought a bylaw back before council for amendment.
During their regular Oct. 28 meeting, Coaldale town council reviewed an amendment to the town’s Assessment Review Board Bylaw.
Assessment Review Board Bylaw 901-AP-10-24 was originally passed on Oct. 7, 2024 and allowed the town to create its own Assessment Review Board. The passing of this bylaw rescinded the previous Assessment Review Board Bylaws 826-AP-09-21 and 655-AP-05-11. However, Bylaw 818-AP-06-21 was not included in that.
“Upon further review of the bylaw, there was a previous bylaw in between numbers 826 and 655 that was not amended, and so inadvertently, the bylaw is back before you today to include that third bylaw to rescind,” said Lana Antony, municipal clerk for the town.
Bylaw 818-AP-06-21 was a bylaw amendment for the town’s rescinded Regional Assessment Review Board Bylaw 655-AP-05-11, to bring it more in line with the legislative requirements of when it was passed in 2021.
AFB are responsible for hearing assessment review complaints for municipalities and are mandated by the Municipal Government Act. As the Oldman River Regional Services Commission no longer provides this service for Coaldale, the town needed to create its own, which Bylaw 901-AP-10-24 allows for.
Council unanimously passed all three readings for the Amendment to Assessment Review Board Bylaw 904-AP-10-24.
