The following are selected highlights from the Administration Report presented during Coalhurst town council’s regular Nov. 19 meeting.

• As of Nov. 15, garbage pickup for the Sundance subdivision has been moved to Fridays, to accommodate community growth. The change in service was advertised since Oct. 25, and reminders of the date change will continue through December.

• Town administration has submitted grant application to Heritage Canada for the Celebrate Canada Fund, to assist with funding for Canada Day 2025 for a total of $3,800 to fund advertising, decorations, signage, entertainment, birthday cake, and cake serving materials. Administration hopes to hear back in early 2025.

• Winners of the town’s 2024 Halloween House Decorating Contest are as follows:

• First place: 626 46th Avenue, Coalhurst

• Second place: 5234 2nd Street, Coalhurst

• Third place: 529 51st Avenue, Coalhurst

• The Coalhurst Parks and Recreation Society has informed the town that they will not be able to use the 2024 Community Grant Fund dollars it received in October. This means approximately $6,000 is available for new for successful Community Grant applicants. Program details and applications forms are available on the town’s website.

• Coalhurst’s building permit contractor, Park Enterprises has lunched a new live application system. Instead of filling out a PDF which has often required much follow-up for needed information, applicants are guided through a new application system to fill out all ne needed information for the permit, which will then be sent to Park Enterprises. This aims to streamline the process of permit issuance, and is based on the Alberta Safety Codes Authority (ASCA) application model. When asked by coun. Jesse Potrie if there was any process in place to they could make sure residents get their development permit before they start developing, Ashley Bouchard, municipal administrative assistance for the town, said that if someone applies for a building permit, and they do not have a development permit application number to reference, Park Enterprises has typically reached out to Bouchard and asked if they had received their document. Additionally, Bouchard said she could enter in the application number on the website to connect with Park, “so that when they put that building permit, or other safety code permit in, the permit that’s already been approved will populate”.

• Municipal enforcement department report 40 files, as follows:

• 17 traffic enforcement files, including peed violations, poor parking, and abandoned vehicles

• Five animal control files, for animals at large

• Eight unsightly property/alleyway clean-ups: 8

• 10 other files, including a noise complaint, trespassing complaints, intoxicated person removal, and three assist files with the Lethbridge County Peace Officer.
