Coaldale Main Street History Chart:

Town of Coaldale resident Doreen Lloyd presented a history chart of Coaldale’s Main Street to councillors at the Feb. 3 regular council meeting. The project, which took five years to complete, depicts Main Street businesses, both past and present and includes 135 pictures and over 400 entries.

Lloyd is donating the history project to the Town of Coaldale, where it will be prominently displayed at indoor and outdoor locations. Local businesses can also request a smaller sized copy of the history project to display and a copy will also be given to the Gem of the West Museum. Mayor Jack Van Rijn and councillors praised Lloyd, a former town councillor and chamber of commerce president, for her hard work and efforts on the project and her dedication to the town.

ACP Grant Funding:

Town of Coaldale CAO Kalen Hastings presented a brief update to councillors on Lethbridge County’s application for Alberta Community Partnership (ACP) grant funding at the Feb. 3 regular council meeting.

Lethbridge County applied for an ACP grant in collaboration with the Town of Coaldale, the Town of Coalhurst, the Town of Picture Butte, the County of Cardston, and the Town of Nobleford. The county was recently notified that the ACP grant, in the amount of $200,000 has been approved. The grant will fund a study evaluating opportunities to improve irrigation water delivery practices to enhance water supply availability in the region.

Hastings pointed out that since the Town of Coaldale is in charge of the ACP grant for the study of potable water between Lethbridge and Medicine Hat along the Highway 3 corridor, and the Town of Taber is in charge of the wastewater for the same corridor, it would be a good gesture of support if they passed a resolution to support Lethbridge County in the study of the water rights component, as that is a key variable for the potable water study that the town is embarking on with the province.

Councillors unanimously passed a resolution to provide continued support of Lethbridge County’s ACP application that will improve irrigation water delivery practices to enhance water supply availability for the region.
