The Coaldale Pickleball Club is teaming up with local organizations to co-host a major pickleball tournament in southern Alberta this spring.
The Lethbridge and District Pickleball Tournament is set for May 2-4 at the Agri-food Hub and Trade Centre in Lethbridge and will feature pickleball players of all ages from across the region.
Organized by Lethbridge and District Exhibition (LDE) in collaboration with the Lethbridge and Coaldale pickleball clubs, the event will bring together players of all skill levels for a competitive and exciting weekend of pickleball action.
“The Coaldale and Lethbridge Pickleball clubs, realize how fortunate we are to have access to this world-class facility through our partnership with Lethbridge and District Exhibition,” said Valerie Boras, Coaldale Pickleball Club president. “We look forward to hosting this event and even larger tournaments in the future.”
The three-day event begins Fri. May 2 with men’s singles, women’s singles, junior boys’ doubles and junior girls’ doubles matches. On Sat. May 3, participants will compete in men’s and women’s doubles, followed by mixed doubles on Sun. May 4.
The Tier 4 Pickleball Canada sanctioned event will follow USAP international rules and will feature referees for all medal matches. All participants must be members of Pickleball Canada to compete and player rankings will be determined using the Canadian Tournament Play Rating (CTPR).
“We have seen the interest in pickleball rise dramatically in the past couple of years and as the demand for high-end events rises, we are uniquely positioned to host a tournament of this size,” said Kim Gallucci, acting CEO, Lethbridge and District Exhibition. “We are excited to build a tournament atmosphere in our trade halls and welcome competitors from across the region to show off their skills in the sport.”
Registration for the Lethbridge and District Pickleball Tournament is open until April 25. The first 25 registered youth players will have their fees waived by the Lethbridge and Coaldale pickleball clubs.
