Councillor Eric Van Essen’s move out of Division 5 earlier this year opened up a vacant seat, necessitating a by-election which has now concluded with Kevin Slomp being voted in. Division 5 voters turned out for the advance vote on September 7 and general election day on September 9. A total of 190 votes were cast.
“I am incredibly thankful for the overwhelming support from our community and thrilled by the strong voter turnout,” says Slomp, who took in 163 votes and will be sworn in on Sept. 19.
When asked about what he is looking forward to in the role, he notes, “I am most looking forward to learning about and getting to know even more people in the community, hearing their needs, and being able to help them.”
He reiterated, again, his gratefulness for the robust support received on the ballots.
David Bishop, Slomp’s opponent in the by-election, trailed distantly with a total 27 votes cast.
Division 5 is in the northwest portion of the County, including Monarch and the area surrounding the Town of Nobleford and Village of Barons. Stay informed by visiting http://www.lethcounty.ca.
