Southern Accord Chorus hosting A Capella Boot Camp

For 26 years, the Southern Accord Chorus has been a staple of harmonious music throughout Southern Alberta. Known for their distinctive four-part a cappella harmony, this award-winning women’s chorus invites audiences to experience the magic of their music and join in the unique experience thanks to the upcoming A Cappella Boot Camp.

Southern Accord Chorus members hail from Lethbridge, Coaldale, Vauxhall, Iron Springs, Warner, and Milk River – all are welcome to join the Boot Camp, which will take place from 6:45 pm to 9 pm on September 18 and 25 in the McNally Community Centre. The event is free of charge.

“We are unique in the type of music we do—four-part a cappella harmony,” says Carol Quan, Marketing. “This style of music not only captivates audiences but also provides a welcoming space for singers of all voice types. Whether you’re a bass with a deep, resonant tone or a tenor adding high musical embellishments; part of the lead melody line, or harmonizing as a baritone, there’s a place for every voice in the chorus. When all four parts of the chorus are put together, you get wonderful harmonic chords.”

The chorus has not only captivated local audiences but also achieved recognition on larger stages. 

“We won first place in a Western Canada contest last spring. That was very exciting,” Quan shares. “We go to contests once every three years, but more so for the feedback. One of our main goals is to be better singers. We have great musical directors and coaches that help us. We really strive to get better all the time! The main reason we sing is to reach our audiences and share our music. We even do a little bit of movement in our performances. We memorize our songs and really try to send the message out to our audience.”

The results and the feedback from those captivated by the chorus can attest that this goal has been richly obtained.
