Digital sources not always reliable

An editorial in your April 1 issue cited the unfortunate decline in local journalism. One factor in this is the rise of online media, resulting in a loss of local news coverage.

Many people trust sources like Google for information. But how reliable are they and where do they get their information?

Some time ago a gentleman came to my door saying he had come to pick up a package for Amazon – something I knew nothing about. The address he sought does not exist – certainly not at my location as he thought, and as far as I know it never has. The man explained that he got the non-existent address from Google.

I think Google (for example) is less reliable than many people think.
