Coaldale Copperheads opened their season this past weekend splitting two games at home. Saturday night, was the first win of the season, as the team beat High River 7-0.
It was a solid superb home opener in front of a full crowd at the Snake Pit.
It was an evening for fans to remember, as fans witnessed the South and League Championship banners, hanging in the arena for the first time.
Special guests Coaldale Mayor Kim Craig and last year’s Captain Colby Murray took part in the official puck drop to start a new season. A small tribute of thanks was made to five year “O’ Canada” singer Leanna Santangleo.
Sunday night, it was a rough game against the last year playoff rivals the Strathmore Wheatland Kings. It was back and forth with the Kings the whole game, and just falling short 6-5. This coming weekend, the Copperheads are back home again for another two games.
On Friday at 8:30 p.m., the team hosts the Stettler Lightning and Saturday at 8:30 p.m. the Mountainview Colts will pay a visit.
Copperheads have selected their captain this season as Craig Lyon.
