HJHL defending champions, the Coaldale Copperheads, had another strong past weekend securing two more wins.
This puts the team on a four-game winning streak, sitting in a tight race for first place of the south. (13W-7L)
Friday night, the Snakes travelled and played in High River — winning against the Flyers 7-3.
Hard working Ryan Swier and Clay Vogt scored two goals a piece. With singles from Craig Lyon, Austin Huculak and Austin Holmes. Rookie goaltender Dylan Swanson saved 20/23.
Saturday, in front of a home crowd, the Copperheads came out the strongest they’ve displayed yet for fans.
The first two shots on the Cochrane goalie, Swier and Calvin Swanson each scored to take a quick 2-0 lead. The Snakes kept pressuring hard, with James Price scoring the third goal, four minutes into the game.
The Copperheads backed down a touch in the game keeping a two-goal distance the rest of the game.
Dillan Kelly had a solid game saving 41/45 against the Generals. The final score was 7-3 for the Snakes.
Cochrane, the week prior in the HJHL power rankings, was first, so this was a confidence building win for the Copperheads.
Next home game is set for this coming Saturday the 28th at 8:30 p.m. against the Okotoks Bisons.
Okotoks is another top south team reaching for the first place league ending spot.
The Copperheads season is half over therefore, the team encourages fans to use up season tickets and come cheer on Coaldale’s home team.
The Picture Butte Shimek Initiation Blades travelled to Magrath Saturday morning to take on the Chiefs.
The Blades came out on top with a score of 13-3.
Scoring three goals for the blades were Devin Groeneboom and Ryan and Tate Serfas. Netting two a piece were Jayden Quinn and Brody Trotter.
Strong in net for the Blades were Luke Serfas, Pierce Medve and Justin Campmans.
The Picture Butte Peewee Blades had a very busy two weekends.
Last weekend, the team played a four-game tournament in Claresholm.
The team came out on top against the St. Albert Warriors, 13-4.
Hunter VanVaerenbergh had a particularly good game with his rocket of a shot from the point.
The team’s second game against Airdrie Lightning was not as successful. The team was able to turn things around in the third game against the Okotoks Oilers beating them 13-6.
The final game was against the tournament host and the team just couldn’t take the win.
This past weekend, the team travelled to Bow Island and Irvine.
The Bow Island game was a great example of team work. The Blades were cycling and passing the puck with the skill and maturity of older players.
The team was victorious with a score of 9-4.
The Blades came up short to Irvine. It was a 5-5 tie after the second but the team could not hold onto it in the third letting.
Irvine beat the team 11-7.
Sunday, the Picture Butte Masterfeeds Atom Blades travelled to Pincher Creek — coming out with a 9-9 tie.
Scoring for the Blades were Cam Hillaby with three, Riley Hillaby with two goals, Matt Reiter with one goal, Karsen Haney with one, Kourtney Serfas with one and Rhett Serfas with one goal.
The Atom Blades are back in action Nov. 29 at 9:30 a.m. in Picture Butte.
