The Kate Andrews Pride arose with a 6-3 victory last week over Crowsnest Pass, in Bellevue-Hillcrest. With factors such as absence of players, absence of coaches and playoffs approaching quickly, these last couple of games have become must-wins.
Alex Hlas-Ross led the Pride by throwing seven complete innings, giving up only three runs off of three hits. With great support from the Pride defense, Alex dominated the opposing lineup with a total of 11 strikeouts (five backwards).
Offensively, David Hlady led the squad by finishing three-for-three with two doubles, one single, and two RBIs.
The game showed great teamwork, as well as ambition to win. Not to mention, the game was our best thus far in terms of playing real mental baseball.
The Kate Andrews Pride played a double header on Saturday and came away with two wins.
First the Pride beat Cardston 27-2. Blake Thompson got the win, as he gave up two runs on two hits, while striking out 11 in the complete game. The offensive outburst was led by Blake Thompson going four-for- five with five RBIs and Jesse Cajka going three- for-five with 4 RBIs. The Pride continued their offensive dominance on the day with a 20-3 victory over Crowsnest.
Colton Ball also went the distance giving up three runs on six hits with three strikeouts. The offence was led by the trio of Alex Ross, David Hlady, and Blake Thompson who combined for 15 RBIs in the game.
The pride defence was once again solid behind their starting pitchers only committing three errors on the day. Travis Paiha had a breakout day, as he went five-for-nine with four RBIs and a triple.
Brock Boutillier and Layne Nelson also had their best day of the season going five-for-10 and four-for-nine on the day, respectively.
The Pride will get ready for provincials this week and will play their first game Friday in a rematch of last year’s final against W.R. Myers from Taber.
