Harvest is a special time of year to celebrate locally and abroad

Posted on September 13, 2016 by Sunny South News

Agriculture in southern Alberta indeed holds a special place in the hearts of Lethbridge County residents. This fall, farmers and producers harvest their fields and the Sunny South News celebrates the harvest with a special section dedicated to all things agriculture in a pull-out insert.
It’s important to remember where our food comes from. Where our food’s life begins and ends before we enjoy the bounty southern Alberta farms provide.
Harvesting is happening throughout the county and throughout southern Alberta and the rest of the province. Beets and potato harvests are to begin shortly, while it is important to keep in mind safety when sharing the roads with farmers and their machinery.
Each year, the farmer takes to the fields to make sure crops are ready to be completed and sent off locally and globally (for some).
Harvest is a time to be thankful for a job well done throughout the year. The times may be tough and the weather extreme. The crops may become damaged or an early harvest might be in order to save the crop.
Remember the farmer.
The farmer is the region’s lifeblood and lifeline to good eats and beverages.
