Picture Butte hockey teams hit the ice this winter
The Initiation Butte Blades/Jimmie’s Mighty Knights were in action at their recent home invitational tournament. The team came out strong on the Friday night and beat Claresholm 10-7.
Highlights included hat tricks from Kale Okubo and Jesse Klingenberg. Other goal scorers included Ryder Johnson, Jack Groenenboom, Isaiah Wiebe, and Matthew Van Zeggelaar.
Jersey Johnson received the Digger Award for her effort in the win.
On the Saturday, the Blades faced off against Lethbridge in a tough battle.
Kale had two goals and Jesse had one in a 15-3 loss.
Jesse’s strong play earned him the Digger Award in that game.
On the Sunday, Butte played Medicine Hat in their final game of the tournament. It was another tough match. Jesse Klingenberg had one goal, while Kale Okubo stood out in that game with a hat trick and was awarded a Digger Award.
Overall, the tournament was a huge success and fun was had by all. Special thanks goes out to all the sponsors, donors and volunteers who help make this weekend so much fun for the kids.
It has been a busy couple of weeks for the Picture Butte Atom B Blades.
Last weekend, the went out to Creston for a tournament. After a very early morning and a long day, the team came out of Saturday games playing in the 3-4 playoff game on Sunday with a record of two wins, one tie and one loss.
Connor O’Donnell (six goals),Tanner Quinn (six goals), Grady McLeod, Kyle Harrington (two goals) and Hector Alberto-Lopez all contributed points in these games, while Kaden Groenenboom and Kyle Harrington were strong between the pipes.
This past weekend saw the team lose a tough game to Raymond with points contributed by Hector Alberto-Lopez, Leland Fraser, Tanner Quinn, Connor O’Donnell, Kaden Groenenboom and Luka Rudelich.
Sunday against Taber was also a mark for the loss column with Hector Alberto-Lopez (two goals), Tanner Quinn, Grady McLeod and Connor O’Donnell all seeing point action on the scoresheet. After a busy first half of the season, the Blades are on a break for Christmas and will resume action in the New Year.
The Picture Butte Blades Novice #2 played Raymond on Saturday and won by seven, with Max Okubo, Gracen Schooten and Walker Schooten, all contributing goals. The team was also victorious at their exhibition game on Sunday.
