The Coaldale Copperheads are down two games to one in the South Division Final of the Heritage Junior Hockey League.
After beating the Okotoks Bisons in a dramatic reverse sweep in seven games, the Coaldale crew amazed fans again by winning the first game of the division final 8-5. The “Comeback Kids” were down four zip early in the second period — when they went on a scoring terror, firing five shots home in the second period to jump ahead five to four going into the third frame. The strong plays continued, as the Snakes prevailed with the eight to five victory with an empty netter by Brendon Benson, which capped of a hat trick and seven-point night.
In Game Two, also in Cochrane this past Friday night, both teams looked tired, as they battled to a two-two tie late in the third when Cochrane put home the winner in 47 seconds of the third. The two goals came from Benson and Brady Parenteau.
Starting goaltender Dillon Kelly had plenty of work, as he turned aside 42 shots for the loss.
Game Three was back in the Coaldale Snake Pit this past Saturday night. A packed home town crowd witnessed the Generals take an early lead and eventually beat the Snakes seven to two. The Generals had a bye the first round and then beat Banff in four easy games straight compared to the Copperheads — who were competing in Game 12 in twenty days of their amazing playoff run.
Mackenzie Karl and Parenteau scored for the Copperheads this past Saturday.
The Coaldale crew is looking forward to a much-needed rest, as Game Four is slated for 8 p.m. tomorrow night in Coaldale, where the Copperheads will be looking to even up the series before they head back to Cochrane for Game Five on Friday night.
