“We’re super excited. It’s always good to have a little bit of a change here and there and get some new coaching staff and of course the players that are coming in,” said Kelly Wiebe, Coaldale Copperheads Junior Hockey secretary.
A second day of registration is scheduled for Thursday from 4-6 p.m. in the Coaldale “Snake Pit” arena lobby. Registration forms and more information can be found on the team website online at http://www.coaldalecopperheads.com.
Tryout times are being held at the Coaldale Arena Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 3-5:30 p.m.
Other than a new coaching staff, Wiebe added, this year plans are in the works for a fun event prior to the team’s homeopener league game Sept. 20, as the Copperheads go up against Strathmore.
“Before our home game we are hosting a beer gardens and the Fiery Greek, that runs our concession in the lobby, they have a mobile trailer we’re going to set up in front of the swimming pool from 4-8:30 p.m.”
The game starts at 8:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 403-393-3129 or by e-mail at coaldalecopperheads@hotmail.com.
First cuts for the players will be on Sunday and then the team is off to a pre-season tournament Sept. 8-10 in Medicine Hat.
“They’ll have a pretty good idea after that weekend of their final cuts and then we go right straight into leagues starting on Sept. 20 and a couple of games every weekend,” said Wiebe.
Wiebe said the Copperheads have 19 home games and 19 on the road this upcoming season.
“We are going to put little flyers into the mailboxes with our schedule throughout the town, so residents should get that information,” noted Wiebe.
Wiebe said season tickets are already available for fans at a discounted rate.
“The nice thing about our tickets — we found that they’re not dated,” said Wiebe, adding ticket holders can use the tickets at any of the games and tickets are only $5 per ticket.
“We haven’t raised our prices in eight years because we are supporting our fans that continue supporting us. We want to make it so it’s affordable for people to come out and give them something to do in the winter time,” said Wiebe.
