Blankets for Canada started 20 years ago in Lethbridge on Oct. 27.
It was organized by Nancy Panting, from an idea from here sister in the U.S.A.
So why not in Canada.
Started by word of mouth and ads in community news, ect. Yarn was donated and eight inch squares were made and blankets were put together.
These went to homeless shelters, detox, Harbour House, ect.
All that people needed to do was call Nancy, and the blankets were given to these organizations.
After eight years the square stockpile was really big, so there was a need for more volunteers, so along came Nellie Slingerland from Coaldale and asked if she could help.
That’s how our Coaldale group started 12 years ago. I placed a notice under the Fridge News, and the rest is history.
We put place, time, date to get together at my place. Now we are close to making #2,000.
And to think not two blankets are the same! All our yarn over the years has been donated.
Now there is an invitation to come celebrate with us in the Southminster Church Lethbridge, 4th Ave and 11 Street, on Oct. 25 from 10 a.m. till noon.
All those who have made or donated or want to hear more about us are invites to come visit or have a coffee.
Hope to meet you, our unknown friends!
NELLIE SLINGERLAND,
COALDALE
