Coaldale Copperheads
Coaldale Copperheads opened their first league weekend going two for two. Saturday night, with the home opener at the Snake Pit seen the Snakes stay in the lead the entire game against Mountain View Colts.
Final score of 6-4 with returning goaltender Broc Merkl between the pipes for the full sixty minutes. First goal of the season came from overage Taber player Jedd Horvath.
Tyler Anderson, wearing the captain this year gained the teams second goal.
During the second period Copperheads pulled ahead 3-0 with a unassisted goal from Linden Gouw. Jayden Bexte (1+1) and Brandyn Howg (2+0) both having a strong performance with two points a piece.
Prior to the game official puck drop the Copperheads unveiled the south division banner from last year to the Snake Pit showcase wall.
Sunday the team experienced their first road trip to Cochrane with the new roster.
The Snakes are a mix of about half returning players and half new faces this year.
Cochrane got on the scoreboard first at 4:47.
Copperheads veteran Ty Abbott with some aggressiveness popped in the Snakes first goal.
At the end of the second period it was tied 2-2 with a goal from Tyler Anderson.
It was assistant captain Jayden Bexte with a fancy type goal scoring the winning goal with 10:18 left in the game.
The Copperheads managed to play some consistent play that was needed to finish off with the second big points of the weekend.
Goaltender with a solid performance for the full sixty minutes facing 42 shots was Brandon Clark from Hudson’s Hope ,B.C.
Copperheads the coming weekend will host Okotoks Bisons on Sat. Sept 28 at 8:30 at the Snake Pit.
Sunday will be another travel day to Strathmore for a 4:45 set away game.
