On Oct 12, 1982, I lost my brother Stanley who resided on Hallet Street in Winnipeg, MB.
He was a finishing carpenter and made beautiful furniture. I felt so lonesome for him that I composed a poem entitled “Thanksgiving Day” in memory of him.
When he was growing up, he had many hardships. One of them being born without eardrums, slipped the disk in his back after working in a sawmill. The employer refused to send a report to WCB so he can get compensated for his injuries.
Since I was the youngest of 15 children, I still miss the family I grew up with. There are only three of us left: my oldest sister is 97 – she resides in a Seniors’ home in Kamsack, Sask., and a sister, now 80, resides in Burlington, ON. When there is an age gap so far apart and distance from each other, the feeling of closeness is gone.
Thanksgiving Day Poem
Every year we set aside one day for prayer;
To thank God our Father, for always being there
And when He calls inspired in our hearts –
There is Jesus Christ, to save our passed on spirits.
So, let us all be thankful to our Creator –
That through our Redeemer we can rejoice forever.
We are all Pilgrims today
Regardless when you celebrate “Thanksgiving Day”
‘cause what favour you give God now,
will never stray.
