Coaldale Copperheads
Coaldale Copperheads appears to have find the right groove nearing the end of regular season.
A successful important four point weekend road swing of victories puts them at (22-11-1).
Saturday night the team played one of the best games of the season against the Red Deer Vipers. Vipers suffered a loss the night before against Airdrie but were cruising on a ten game winning streak.
Copperheads won convincingly 4- 1 which was a high point for the team taking the second placed hot top team of the north.
In addition, it’s been a long time coming since the Snakes have not won on the road in Red Deer since 2014.
The entire squad came to play Saturday including new added goaltender Brett Vanderveer who served between the pipes.
Vanderveer, a Saskatchewan farm boy with a victory under his belt should bring strength to the team at the right time. Jayden Bexte had a heck of a game with three points (1-2) Other goal scorers in the game were Mason Sande, Ethan Klemen and Kole Fujita. Everyone was moving, putting the puck on the net.
The final score clock tally proved it with shots in favour 44-31 for the team Snakes.
Sunday the boys had an afternoon affair with the Ponoka Stampeders coming on top with a 13-5 win.
Points were spread out amongst the group for the most part but a Mason Sande landed a hat trick. Isaac Benoit finished with two goals and two assists. Kole Fujita with three assists and a goal. Plus the single goals from Jared Bainbridge, TJ Johnson, Tyler Strath, Ty Abbott, Ethan Klemen, Clay Nevil & Brandyn Howg. Ethan Barrows was the winning goaltender for the full sixty minutes.
This coming weekend the Copperheads will have the south first place team a Okotoks Bisons (29-2-0) visiting.
The home game at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, will be one you don’t want to miss.
The Snakes are hoping this past weekend is contagious and the streak continues.
