The following are selected briefs from the regular Jan. 29 meeting of Coaldale town council. Coun. Bill Chapman was absent from the meeting.
STARS Delegation
STARS Donor Relations and Development Officer Jackie Seely came before council as a delegation, presenting on what STARS does, their funding and call statistics.
In the presentation, between 2019-23, as of Dec. 30, 2023, STARS had responded to 360 calls within Lethbridge County, including two calls taking place near Coaldale (one in 2021 and one in 2023). The majority of their calls were for critical inter-facility transfers from Lethbridge Hospital (344). Additionally, since 2010, STARS has flown 57 people who were living in Coaldale at the time of the call, even if the call took place in another community, as far away as Saskatchewan.
Kin Canada Proclamation Request
Council received a request from The Kinsmen Club of Coaldale to proclaim Feb. 18-24, 2024, as Kin Canada week.
Kin Canada will be celebrating their 104th Anniversary on Feb. 20, 2024, and the proclamation is to support Kin clubs across Canada.
Previously, the Flag Raising Committee of Council agreed to raise the Kinsmen Flag on the Community Flag Pole at Civic Square from Feb. 18-24.
Mayor Jack Van Rijn had disclosed he is a member of the the Kinsmen Club of Coaldale.
Council passed a motion to provide support with a signed proclamation to declare Feb. 18 – 24, 2024, as Kin Canada week.
