A number of bylaws were passed at a recent Coaldale council meeting.
During their regular May 13 meeting, Coaldale town council reviewed a number of proposed bylaws, the first which was the proposed Supplementary Assessment Tax Bylaw 890-C-05-24.
“The supplemental tax bylaw essentially covers any property that in 2024 was completed or substantially completed in a year,” said Kyle Beauchamp, chief financial officer for the town. “The reason being is that once the property tax notices come out, properties are as of Dec, 31, 2023. So, if a new property gets built or completed during the year, this bylaw would then tax that property later in the fall, based on its estimated value.”
Council unanimously passed all three readings of Supplementary Assessment Tax Bylaw 890-C-05-24.
Another bylaw reviewed was the proposed Special Tax Recreation Bylaw 891-C-05-24. This allows the town to set a special tax levy of $10/month for each developed residential parcel of land within the town’s boundaries, in order to fund the $10 million debenture payment for the town’s multi-use recreation facility. A similar bylaw was passed in 2023.
Council unanimously passed all three readings of Special Tax Recreation Bylaw 891-C-05-24.
The final bylaw was the proposed Fees and Rates Bylaw 893-C-05-24. Changes to the bylaw include items within the Business License section, and the transfer to tax fee had changed from $20 to $30, as in the town’s utility fees bylaw, it was set at $30, and the change was made to reflect that.
Council unanimously passed all three readings of the Fees and Rates Bylaw 893-C-05-24.
