How MLA Schow sees it: Alberta’s Recovery Plan

Posted on September 22, 2020 by Sunny South News

Alberta has been hit hard economically with the pandemic, the downward spiral of oil prices throughout the year, and the terrible economic state the previous government had left us in. This has put Alberta in a tough economic spot, but as promised in our election platform, Alberta’s government has a plan.

Alberta’s Recovery Plan (ARP) is a bold, ambitious, long-term strategy to build, diversify, and create tens of thousands of jobs now. Alberta’s Recovery build’s on Alberta’s strengths with timely, targeted investments and bold policy reforms. These intend to create tens of thousands of shovel-ready jobs immediately, making Alberta more competitive in the long term by accelerating economic diversification in industries of the future, while also ensuring a strong future for the bedrock sector of our economy: Alberta’s energy industry. We are here to do business in Alberta, and this plan exemplifies that.

Alberta’s Recovery Plan works because it not only invests in projects that will create great jobs in our province, but also improves our province in many ways. By building roads, schools, and other core infrastructure, we are benefitting our communities and making them a more prosperous and better place to live. By diversifying our economy and attracting investment with Canada’s most competitive tax environment, we are putting Alberta on a path for a generation of growth. Alberta came together to save lives by flattening the cure, and now we must do the same to save livelihoods -a task I know Albertans are ready for.

The ARP is great for our Constituency of Cardston-Siksika. It has provided infusions to our communities through the Municipal Stimulus Program, aimed at creating good, shovel-ready jobs. Our Constituency needs this economic boost in order to get back on track. We also need these jobs and economic stimulus, much like other rural communities do in Alberta. Education and improving our schools and facilities has also been a focal point in the ARP. Three school divisions in particular have been funded significantly in my Constituency: The Horizon School Division, The Palliser School Division, and The Westwind School Division.

I am extremely proud of the work and direction Alberta’s government is taking to get our economy back on track. Their strategic plan to create jobs, while investing in our province in the long run, is excellent for our communities. I cannot wait to see these projects come to flourishing through Alberta’s Recovery Plan, and for Albertans to get back to work.

Joseph Schow, MLA for Cardston-Siksika
