Dear Editor:
My family and I are members and had the great pleasure of visiting the Alberta Birds of Prey Centre in Coaldale this year.
If you are thinking of making a charitable donation, or even a bequest, consider this deserving organization for your support.
This is the only wildlife rescue facility located south of Calgary and it receives no government subsidies — relying solely on donations for its operating expenses.
One-hundred per cent of all contributions goes to work here in southern Alberta and being a small organization, all proceeds directly support their wildlife care and rescue.
Although they specialize in owls, hawks and eagles, they also help in many other situations such as rescuing a family of ducks with newly hatched young from a residential backyard or a woodpecker that flew inside the house of a senior citizen.
Often unrecognized for their volunteer commitment, they even answer phone calls for help virtually every day of the year — night or day, holidays included, long after most offices are closed.
While many people think of the centre as a summer tourist attraction, through the winter, this facility has major expenses and work going on, still rescuing and caring for many birds during the darkest and coldest days and nights.
We are very fortunate to have the Alberta Birds of Prey Centre serving all of southern Alberta.
Consider helping an owl or eagle this Christmas. It’s also a wonderful thank you for all their work and an investment for all our communities.
