Lydia and I joined our friends Russ & Willa Whitaker about 25 years ago, singing songs for Seniors at LSCO.
Russ was the music director and Madeline Mandzuk the pianist. We were a great team. We sang songs at the Yates Theatre and brought large crowds. Russ recently broke his hip and has slowed down in his nineties. Madeline moved to Calgary, with her family. She became active to play the accordion for seniors at Seniors homes. In fact when my mother passed away at 103 years in Canora Sask., Madeline offered to play for her funeral Mass. We became close friends.
For the Millennium we composed a song entitled “Celebrate”. I wrote the lyrics and she composed the music. The song is a peppy one and recommended for church celebrations.
CELEBRATE
Refrain:
Praise to the Father the Son and Spirit one
Come let us celebrate your love
Keep us united in our communion
As we sing this happy song.
Come O Spirit of love and peace
Come into our hearts O Lord
As we embrace His Holy Word
Keep our hopes in one accord (Refrain)
Praise the Father and Praise the Son
With the Spirit we now Pray
Make all humanity be one
As we celebrate this day. (Refrain)
Lord of wisdom come fill our heart
By your life and with your pow’r
Open and guide our minds to start
Celebrating at this hour. (Refrain)
