Dear Editor:
It is with great concern I write this letter regarding the planned extension of 16 Avenue (in Coaldale). I walk on the pathways that were built after the Malloy project was completed and so enjoy the wildlife and the peacefulness that project brought on.
I’m sad to think traffic would be going right through the middle of it. I realize the project was built for flood mitigation with a wetland component, but now a busy roadway would destroy the peaceful nature and create a traffic problem with garbage strewn in the ditches of what was a quiet residential street. It is amazing how many people use those pathways for their late evening or early morning walks.
I have talked to quite a few people regarding this decision and to-date have not found a single person in favour of it. What kind of council do we have in this town? I always thought a town council is here for the people. It seems the mayor and town council have an opinion they can act on their own decisions and disregard what the people want. If that is the case, then it is time they resign, so we can get new people in there! They are not voted in for their own personal gain. We have already had issues with the proposed school and so-called ‘rec centre,’ the majority were against that project, including its location – but, council in their wisdom, is going ahead with it anyway.
