Dear Editor: Recently, I received authorization from the Canadian Red Cross to promote my poems on YouTube to allow people to donate towards the devastation of the ongoing wildfires in British Columbia.
Presently, there are 300 wildfires throughout the province — especially in Osoyoos, Oliver, Vernon and other regions. Some were caused by human error/carelessness and others by lightning.
Since April 1, B.C. dealt with 1,425 incidents. A total of approximately 608,178 hectares has burnt throughout the province. The Kamloops Fire Centre still has the most active with 84.
Homeowners are losing their homes and are being evacuated. Lytton lost their entire village. The smoke around here is unbearable, and we cannot take walks or work in our garden lately.
Therefore, we urge you to donate for this worthy cause, so they can hire more firefighters and allow us to breathe clean air again.
I’m asking people to listen to my 12 poems on DVD; select YouTube “Whispering North480” for 12 minutes. Donate any amount by using this link https://donate.redcross.ca/page/85877/donate/1?. The Red Cross will likely issue a receipt.
Hoping everybody who reads this letter will donate wholeheartedly. Thank you.
Paul Jones
