Coaldale Mayor Kim Craig advised the Coaldale and District Chamber of Commerce the town is pleased to announce Kalen Hastings was named the town’s new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). The announcement was made during a chamber meeting held Feb. 11. At a regularly scheduled town council meeting held Feb. 9, the Town of Coaldale council passed a resolution naming Hastings.
In a letter submitted to the chamber as information, Craig noted, council reviewed the potential costs of engaging a recruiting agency and upon due consideration it was determined such an expenditure was not prudent, given the recruiting process in May 2014, where Transitional Solutions, yielded two viable candidates — Larry Davidson and Hastings.
During Craig’s report he said council recognized Hastings capably discharged the duties as interim CAO from March 2014 to July 2014 and council had the confidence to reappoint him as interim CAO on Dec. 23, 2014. “Since Mr. Hastings joined the town in September, 2010 — he has acquired considerable knowledge of the organization and the town’s business interests and overall strategic goals and he has been successful in meeting key objectives in the area of economic development and municipal relations,” said Craig, reading from the letter submitted to the chamber.
Council, the letter stated, acknowledges the many talented and dedicated employees that have the ability to support the new CAO, as the town continues to move forward on many fronts. “Council believes under Mr. Hastings’ leadership and direction — a stabilizing and positive workplace environment will be brought to the running of the town’s affairs and we can continue to build upon the strong administrative and operational services provided to our community,” said Craig, reading once again from the letter submitted to the chamber for consideration. Hastings was previously the town’s director of municipal relations.
