A Boil Water Advisory for Lethbridge Northern County Potable Water Coop customers remained in place throughout the weekend, and will remain in effect until further notice.
Alberta Health Services issued the order on Thursday, July 5. A follow up notice sent out on Friday informed customers that the advisory would continue throughout the weekend.
According to an AHS press release, a potable water line leak had resulted in the depressurization of parts of the water distribution system, effecting customers in the area north of the Old Man River, between Highway 845 and Highway 25 north of Picture Butte and the area south of Highway 519.
Only users/customers of the LNCPWC located in this area are effected by the Boil Water Order.
The Town of Picture Butte is not affected by the order.
The water has been declared unfit for human consumption, and AHS ordered the coop to issue a Boil Water Advisory to all affected users as they work to repair the leak. Those who have been affected by the order must bring their water to a rapid boil for at least one minute before consuming it.
When reached out to for comment, the LNCPWC said the investigation into the cause of the pressure fluctuation is ongoing. More information on the incident is expected to be released on Tuesday.
Those with any questions should contact the coop at 403-380-6918.
