It’s tiering season for the Central Alberta Hockey League and Coaldale Cobra teams were in action this past weekend as they try to determine where they’ll play this season.
U11 Tier 3
On Saturday, the U11 Tier 3 Cobras took on Raymond at home to start the season. In a high-scoring affair, the away team would snatch a 12-8 victory on Coaldale ice. Boston Constant had four goals for Coaldale while Jackson Batkin had a goal and an assist, Marshall Coquet, Kaelan Hoffman, and Armando Sebastian Alvarado Lopez all had a goal for the Cobras, and Jake Waggener and Roman Howg had an assist each. Mira Anderson got the start in net and the netminder made 33 saves on 45 shots.
In the second game of the weekend, the Cobras hit the road to Pincher Creek. In another high-scoring affair, Coaldale and Pincher saw seven goals each and neither could find a game-winner as it ended 7-7. Constant and Ben Wojszel had a goal and an assist each, Batkin, Alvarado Lopez, Cole Di-Loreto, Lukas Glorify, and Ben Souter had a goal each, and Waggener had an assist. Anderson was back between the pipes and the goalie made 16 saves on 23 shots.
U11 Tier 5
The U11 Tier 5 Cobras took care of business this past weekend as the team collected a pair of wins. On Saturday, the team was in Pincher Creek and they rolled to a 5-2 win. Rylan Brady had two goals in the win while Karli Ohlmann, Emerson Conrad, and Levi Odenbach had a goal each, and Foster Hurt had an assist. Lance Leusink was the starting goalie for Coaldale and made 12 saves on 14 shots.
On Sunday, the Cobras welcomed in Bow Island/Foremost for a morning matchup. In a higher-scoring game, the Cobras would collect a 9-5 win on home ice. Ohlmann had a hat trick in the game, while Drake Labelle and Lucas Kenyon had two goals and an assist each, Dylan Yackulic had three assists, Conrad and Hurt had a goal each, and Paxton Wiebe, Reid Lyckman, Colton Selk, Brady, and Leusink had an assist each.
U13 Tier 4
The U13 Cobras had a pair of games this past weekend as they had an away game and a home game. On Saturday, the team hit the road to take on Pincher Creek. It was a rough game for the Cobras as they fell 6-1. Brayden Zasadny had the lone Coaldale goal while Beckett Hurt and Alistair Poettcker had an assist each. Brant L’Hirondelle was busy in the blue paint as the netminder made 38 saves on 44 shots.
The team then play Raymond at home on Sunday, but no game sheet was available Monday morning. Next weekend, Coaldale heads to Magrath on Saturday afternoon before returning home on Sunday for a 1:15 p.m. puck drop against Foothills.
U15 Tier 3
Like most of the other Coaldale teams, the U15 Cobras had a pair of games this past weekend and first up was Pincher Creek. On the road, the Cobras ran into a tough Pincher Creek team who took home a 13-3 win. Hudson Adams, Payden Whipple, and Killian Erick had the Coaldale goals while Ryley Kauenhowen and Jonah Hass had an assist. Colton Peters got the start in net for Coaldale and made 32 saves on 45 shots.
The Cobras also took on Lethbridge on Sunday, but no game sheet was available on Monday morning. The team heads to Magrath on Saturday afternoon before coming home on Sunday to take on Indus at 4:45 p.m.
U18 Tier 3
It was a tale with two different endings this past weekend for the U18 Cobras as they had two games. On Friday night, the team welcomed in Magrath for their first game of the season. After back-and-forth scoring throughout the game, the Cobras wound up taking a 3-2 win. Tyler Wiebe, Donovan Malm, and Kevin Erick had the Coaldale goals while Schae Van Buuren, Jackson Stone, Chase Petersen, and Kyle Harrington had assists. Logan Van Der Leest was the starting netminder and the goalie was busy making 43 saves on 45 shots.
Unfortunately, the following day saw a much different result as Coaldale fell 14-0 against Irvine. Van Der Leest was back between the pipes and the goalie made 43 saves on 57 shots. This coming weekend sees the Cobras at home on Saturday against Bow Island/Foremost with a 4:45 p.m. puck drop.
