Opening weekend of regular season for Cobras

With the Central Alberta Hockey League tiering round complete, Coaldale Cobra teams kicked off the regular season schedule this past weekend.

U11 Tier 3

The U11 Tier 3 Cobras got off to a hot start as they were able to cruise to a pair of wins to start the regular season. On Nov. 19, the Cobras hit the road to Pincher Creek and the Cobras were able to secure a 7-3 win. Boston Constant had four of the Coaldale goals while Ben Wojszel and Armando Sebastian Alvarado Lopez each had a goal and an assist, Max Craven and Ben Souter had two assists each, Lukas Gyorffy had a single goal, and Kaelan Hoffman, Jackson Batkin, and Justin Siemens all had an assist. Mira Anderson got the start in net and the goalie made 19 saves on 22 shots.

The following day saw Chestermere come to Coaldale and the Cobras couldn’t be stopped as they won 15-2. Constant continued his scoring streak as he potted six goals and had a single assist, Wojszel had another two goals and three assists, Jake Waggener chipped in with four goals, Souter had a goal and three assists, Hoffman and Batkin had a goal and an assist each, and Gyorffy had a pair of assists, Anderson was back between the pipes making nines saves on 11 shots.

The U11 Tier 3 Cobras see a single game on tap this coming weekend as Cardston comes to town on Saturday for an 11 a.m. puck drop.

U11 Tier 5

With the regular season beginning, the U11 Tier 5 Cobras had a pair of games this past weekend. On Saturday, the team welcomed in Claresholm. No game sheet was available Monday morning.

On Sunday the team was on the road as they took on the Picture Butte Blades. The Blades scored early and often as the home team took an 8-1 win. Avery Gudmundson had the lone Cobra goal while Colton Selk was the starting goalie and made 35 saves on 43 shots.

Another two games come this weekend for the U11 Tier 5 Cobras as they head to Nanton on Saturday for an 11:30 a.m. game before coming home on Sunday to take on Bow Island/Foremost for an 11 a.m. puck drop.

U13 Tier 4

There was tons of offence over the weekend for the U13 Cobras as they had a pair of games. On Saturday afternoon, the team travelled to Claresholm and both teams filled the net. When the final buzzer rang, the game ended in a 7-7 tie. Beckett Hurt and Caleb Burton each had two goals and two assists, William Thompson had a pair of goals, Maliya Wakefield had two assists, Rudy Wojszel had a single goal, and Ace Pezderic, Zack Geres, Makenna Malm, Adam Klassen, Brayden Zasadny, Gracey Palaschak, and Phoenix Weinkauf all had an assist. Brant L’Hirondelle got the start between the pipes and the goalie made 29 saves on 36 shots.

The team returned to home ice on Sunday as the Picture Butte Blades came to town. In a repeat performance, the Cobras once again scored tons of goals and this time they took an 8-5 win. Ryan Scriven Hirsche had a pair of goals and an assist, Thompson had a goal and two assists, Burton had two goals, Wakefield, Hurt, and Wojszel had a goal and an assist each, and Malm, Klassen, and Pezderic all had a single assist. Elliott Hass got the net in the second game of the weekend and the netminder made 23 saves on 28 shots.

The U13 Cobras now prepare for another two games this coming weekend as they take on Raymond on the road on Saturday at 3:45 p.m. and then return home on Sunday to play Pincher Creek at 1:15 p.m.

U15 Tier 3

Two games were on tap for the U15 Cobras as they had an away game and a home game. On Saturday evening, the Cobras hit the road to take on Bow Island/Foremost and Coaldale filled the net as they won 18-4. Jonah Hass had five goals and four assists, Ethan Vervoort had three goals and two assists, Ryder Bousfield had four assists, Lane Broderson had a hat trick, Grady Knoblich and Mason Van Ee had two goals and an assist each, Tucker Newberry had a pair of goals, Ryley Kauenhowen had a goal and an assist, and Marco Burnett and Zoey Caron had an assist each. Dakota Hurst got the start in net and made 45 saves on 49 shots.

On Sunday, the Cobras welcomed in Lethbridge, but no game sheet was available Monday morning. Next up for the U15 Cobras is a game in Picture Butte against the Blades on Saturday at 6 p.m. and then a home game against Brooks on Sunday at 4:45 p.m.

U18 Tier 3

It was a two-game weekend for the U18 Cobras as they welcomed in Taber on Saturday and hit the road to Lethbridge on Sunday. No game sheet was available on Monday morning for Saturday’s home game against Taber.

On Sunday, the team was on the road taking on Lethbridge White and both teams were unable to find a game-winning goal as the game ended 5-5. Dalton Damen had a hat trick and an assist, Kade Lyckman and Hector Peralta-Lopez had the other goals while Kevin Erick, Jackson Stone, and Ryker Bruised Head all had an assist. Logan Van Der Leest got the start in net, making 33 saves on 38 shots.

It’s another two-game weekend coming for the U18 Cobras as they welcome in Magrath for a 4:45 p.m. game on Saturday before departing to Fort Macleod on Sunday for a 4 p.m. puck drop.
