78-year-old senior from Magrath killed in Highway 3 collision west of Lethbridge

A 78-year-old Magrath man died Dec. 27 when the sport utility vehicle he was driving struck a semi-trailer from behind on Highway 3 at the intersection of Highway 509.

The semi driver was uninjured.

Coaldale RCMP said the initial investigation shows the semi was slowing and making a left turn when it was struck from behind by the SUV.

Eastbound traffic on Highway 3 was detoured onto Westview Road from the crash site for several hours while police dealt with the situation. Westbound drivers saw a tarp over the SUV while the investigation was happening.

Police were notified of the collision at 6:14 p.m. on Dec. 27.
