On May 3, the Town of Coaldale once again updated its list of official competitions for the 2024 Southern Alberta Summer Games (SASG).

In September of last year, Coaldale was chosen by the Southern Alberta Recreation Association (SARA) to host the 2024 Games, which will be the first to offer full programming since 2019 when the Covid-19 pandemic put a stop to the Games for 4 consecutive years. Since September, Town staff have been busy organizing the Games, including finalizing a list of official competitions, which now includes darts.

“One of the many benefits of hosting the Southern Alberta Summer Games is the ability to showcase local sporting groups and sport enthusiasts,” said Mark McIntosh, Southern Alberta Summer Games Coordinator for the Town of Coaldale. “One of these groups is Coaldale Jitney Darts. This group hosts weekly dart tournaments on Tuesday evenings at KC’s Pub and has generously agreed to help make darts a part of the 2024 Games. Thanks go out to Dianne Reid and Teresa Holtrop for their eagerness to share their love of darts and to help bring the event to the Games this July.”

Registration for the Games is now open via the official SASG website (https://www.southernalbertasummergames.ca/) and will remain open until Friday, May 31. If you have questions regarding registration, please contact your Regional Director. Contact information for all Regional Directors is now available on the SASG website.

Special Registration Notes:

• Registrations for pickleball are contingent on the outcome of a playoff. Accordingly, those interested in registering for pickleball must first reach out to their Regional Director to express an interest in participating.

• Registrations for esports will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis and are limited to 15 registrants per region. All other registrants will be waitlisted.

To learn more about the 2024 SASG, including about how to volunteer or how to become an official sponsor, please contact the Town of Coaldale’s SASG Coordinator at mark.mcintosh@coaldale.ca or by phone at 403-345-1324. Volunteer and waiver forms are now available on the SASG website.
