Your work vehicle often contains tools, important documents, and is used to keep your business moving both on and off the road. Your work vehicles are also an attractive target for thieves.

Commercial vehicle theft is a problem that affects many businesses and individuals across Alberta.

For businesses that rely on their vehicles to transport tools and equipment, the threat of tool theft is a significant concern. Vehicle tool theft not only results in financial losses, but can also disrupt business operations and increase insurance cost.

How can you protect your vehicle and tools from theft?

1. Inventory your equipment, including make, model, and serial number.

2. Use security marking as a deterrent, which also assists police in identifying your tools if stolen.

3. Photograph the inside of your toolbox and vehicle to detect if anything is missing and ensure everything is in place.

4. Park in secure, well-lit areas, and always lock your doors.

5. If possible, back your vehicle against a wall to deter anyone being able to cut into thinner metals of the vehicle.

6. Invest in security locks for your tools and vehicle such as deadlocks, slam locks, remote locks, padlocks, alarms and tracker technology.

When it comes to theft of and from your commercial vehicle, prevention is key. By taking these precautionary steps, you can reduce the risk of falling victim to crime.

Coaldale RCMP encourages individuals to report any stolen or lost property to their local detachment.
