As coach of the Queens she was busy over the weekend as her team hosted the 2A zones which saw the Vauxhall Queens defeat the Magrath Pandas in a hard fought three sets to take the zone title.
She said it is a tough zone which says a lot about how much volleyball has grown in the south in the last few years.
With both Vauxhall and Magrath headed to Edmonton next week for provincials, Ward said both are great teams and Vauxhall is the defending 2A provincial champs in girls volleyball.
“Let’s hope they come home with gold again.”
Of her own Queens, Ward said they “played the best volleyball of the season”.
At the end of round robin action the PBHS Queens took Magrath to three sets winning the first 25-22, losing the second 27-25 and then the final set by a 15-13 score.
“It was a tough loss,” said Ward.
The game took a lot out of the team and they ended up losing their quarter final match against Kate Andrews High School by scores of 25-12 and 25-18.
“They represented well,” she said of the PBHS Queens.
The KAHS team faced Vauxhall to determine who would advance to the final and Vauxhall won 25-20 and 25-18.
Overall Ward said the weekend featured very competitive volleyball.
“It was a great 2A zones.”
