This past weekend marked the start of the Heritage Junior Hockey League best of five final league series. The Coaldale Copperheads, “the new south division champs,” as per the weekend prior from semi-finals faced the “north division leader” Blackfalds Wranglers for the final series. Friday night the Copperheads travelled to Blackfalds and dominated game one with a final score 4-0. This was a huge win on the road. Goals came off the hands of Colby Murray, Holden Lamb, James Price and Craig Lyon.
Sunday was game two on home ground, where the Copperheads snagged the second win of the series with a final score of 6-2.
This puts the team in a very good spot to win the entire league final. Game three is set for Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Blackfalds.
If the team can’t obtain their goal on Friday, then it’s back home on Mar. 22 at 4:30 p.m. Either way, the opportunity to watch the Copperheads on home ice again this season is over or if it goes to game four, Sunday will be the day.
The Copperheads and Blackfalds both will be participating in provincials April 2-5.
