Pre-season was limited for the Coaldale Copperheads, with only one match-up exhibition game played against the Okotoks Bisons.
It did offer the coaching staff an opportunity to watch the few remaining cuts for the 2015/2016 roster in action. It was a super difficult season narrowing the roster down with the overage players category.
It is a league rule of a maximum of four twenty-one year olds per team and this year, the team had eight in camp.
Some local faces still on the roster at the end of the weekend are Dillan Kelly, Brock Boutilller, and Matthew Nadeau.
This coming weekend, the defending Heritage League Champions will open the 2015/2016 regular season at home with two games.
A home opener will be held Saturday, with puck drop at 8:30 p.m. against High River.
Prior to the game, a short presentation of the team’s “first-time ever official unveiling of the past year HJHL South and League championship banners” will take place.
As well, the team will be honouring a devoted and now retired “O’ Canada” singer Leanna Santangelo for many years of contributions to the Copperheads.
There will also be an introduction of the team’s new white jerseys, which Coach Kenyon is a fan of.
Last year, after winning the championship, the team auctioned off the winning jerseys at the year-end banquet.
The second game of the weekend will be Sunday at 7:30 p.m. against Strathmore.
Admission rates have increased to $7 for adults and $4 for youth. All team information can be found on the user-friendly updated website, which is now linked to the HJHL website at http://www.coaldalecopperheads.com.
