Coaldale Copperheads
Coaldale Copperheads the HJHL south champions didn’t have quite enough to bring home a banner at provincials this past weekend.
Participating in the Hockey Alberta Junior B play down in Wetaskiwin the Snakes won the opening game 7-5 against the host Icemen.
Following that it was two games losing 4-2 against Ft St John Huskies and 5-3 against the Wainwright Bisons.
It came down to the wire of points for and against between the Snakes, Icemen and Huskies who each won one game in the round robin. Wetaskiwin won the tie breaker and moved on to take the bronze medal. Wainwright went on to play the other lone HJHL team Airdrie in the provincial final losing in overtime to the Thunder.
Copperheads retiring goaltender Nolan Berner should hold his head high with a 0.88 save percentage during provincials three games. Berner was outstanding in the Snakes playoff run of league and we will miss No30 Saskatchewan native come next season.
Overage player, a strong key forward Jayden Smith missed the provincials due to not being able to be exempt from a Lethbridge College field trip of his studies. This was defiantly a loss this past weekend on the fore front.
Home town Coaldale boy Chase Williamson grittiness was a valuable asset this season.
Copperheads top four point players in the three provincials games was Levi Anderson, Jason Creighton, Ty Abbott and Jayden Bexte.
Copperheads will officially end their season this coming weekend with their annual awards banquet.
The Copperheads organization at the end twelfth season especially thanks all our fans, families, players, staff, sponsors and the community of Coaldale for all the passion and support they received.
Not the ending we wanted but totally proud all the of same.
